Welcome to the Headwaters Headwaters Studio in Red Lodge Montana

Our office quietly sits up on the edge of Red Lodge, on any given day there’s deer or turkey within sight in the yard.  Sometimes even a moose or a bear graces us with their presence and we gratefully take few moments away from our computer screens to watch in awe.  Our studio is in that kind of environment, just upstairs of our house, filled with toys and tools to fuel our creativity.  When you call us, you don’t have to imagine cubicles or dial any extensions, all you get is our smiling faces instead.

Paul Otsu of Headwaters Studio Red Lodge MontanaPaul Otsu

Has been a graphic artist all his life.  His creative expression started out drawing in a sandbox with a stick and evolved to using current state-of-the-art media tools.  Graduated from University of Mary in Bismarck, ND with a Bachelor’s in Communications, his skills were tested and refined at various positions, including Graphic Designer for a news publication company, Marketing Manager for a ski resort  and a Race Director for a State championship cycling event.  Eventually all of these experiences led Paul to open up his own graphics/events firm—Headwaters Studio.

When not working on his computer, Paul is most often found on a bike in the summertime and on skis exploring the backcountry in the wintertime.  When asked about his alter professional ego, he wishes he’d been a college history professor.

Asano Otsu of Headwaters Studio, Red Lodge Montana

Asano Otsu

Is the multi-tasker of the studio.  Everything related to client services, accounting, project research, collecting resources and delegating cleaning chores, falls in her domain and she loves all of it.  Bachelor’s in Outdoor Experiential Education from Prescott College in Arizona and over a decade of working with students in the outdoors, her strength lies in people skills and understanding clients’ needs.

She secretly wishes all of her belongings would fit in a truck and can be nomadic at any given moment, like it was just five years ago.  But every night she is grateful for comfortable pillows and a warm bed.

Pabst and Surly (The studio cats)

The main source of distraction in our studio.  Rescued from the dumpster, named after their human’s favorite things, these sisters really are the ones in charge.

Pabst has been known to oversee Paul’s work lying across his shoulders to quality control.  When not supervising Paul, she likes to steal the mouse Surly brought home for show and tell.

When not losing her dead mouse to her sister, Surly makes sure the faucets are not running in the bathroom.  If left running, she dutifully tries to dry the sink by drinking from the faucet until her tummy makes the sound of ocean.
